GROWING LEARNERS

Our 3-5 year old classrooms help children transition to more independent and thoughtful learners. These classrooms are designed to develop academic skills and improve independence. Teachers plan classroom environments to support children’s curiosity and need to create their own learning experiences during the Plan-Do-Review process. Each child is encouraged to form a plan (where, when, and how the child will work with materials and other children), execute or change their plan, and then review the original or changed plan with the teacher after work time has ended. Teachers plan small and large group activities to encourage growth in all developmental areas outlined in the HighScope curriculum.

Each classroom uses a combination of daily sheets, emails, and weekly newsletters to communicate with families about individual children and the whole classroom. Preschool aged children are encouraged to take a more active roll in completing their daily forms – by drawing pictures or writing words describing their daily activities.
